Trading card game releases don't usually get launch trailers — product updates arrive as PDFs and a card-spoiler stream. But Wizards of the Coast's Universes Beyond strategy depends on treating each IP crossover like an entertainment property, and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles set needed to earn shelf space against actual Saturday-morning nostalgia. Eyebolls' solution was to build the trailer as a hybrid — director Phil Hawkins shooting live-action plates while animation director Tony Cervone (Space Jam, SCOOB!) mapped hand-drawn Turtles into the frame. The creative gamble is that the medium of the ad quotes the IP: TMNT existed as cartoons long before they existed as cards, so the commercial splits the difference rather than picking a side. The 30-second cut premiered in theaters ahead of the Mutant Mayhem Regal screenings in late March, a distribution play that put the spot in front of its most fluent audience at the moment they'd already paid for the feeling. The transferable lesson: when a crossover's value comes from fandom translation, don't localize the product — translate the form itself, then buy the media where the translation is already loudest.
